Rob Martin CAM is the President of Freespeed Aviation

At one time the youngest Naval Aviator to wear the ‘Wings of Gold’, Rob has over 30 years of professional aviation experience, including leadership roles in the military, charter and corporate aviation fields. Since 2006, he has been the Chief Pilot and Director of Aviation of a privately held Southern California based charter company, with extensive international operating experience in the Gulfstream G550 and G450. Rob is type-rated in the Gulfstream V, Gulfstream IV, Lear 45, Lear 60, and Lear Jet series of aircraft.

In addition to his love of flying, Rob’s experience extends to aircraft acquisitions, consulting, and charter brokering. Rob is the founder of Freespeed Aviation, an aviation consulting firm that provides professional aviation guidance to its clients, as well as acting as a trusted charter broker on their behalf. As the large-cabin aircraft sales specialist for Fort Lauderdale based Skywater Jets since 2013, he also specializes in shepherding the aircraft sales and acquisition transaction process.

Rob’s military career spanned 11 years and saw service as a Carrier Transport Plane Commander in East and West coast C-2A Greyhound squadrons, as well as a 2-year deployment to Japan as the Assistant Director of Air Operations on the USS Kitty Hawk. He has operated off of 11 aircraft carriers with over 350 arrested landings. His military experience includes duties as Post Maintenance Test Pilot, Instructor Pilot, and CRM instructor. Upon leaving the Navy in 2000, Rob flew as the Assistant Chief Pilot and Lear Jet Check Airman for a South Florida based charter operator, followed by 3 years operating the Lear 45, Gulfstream IV, 450, and 550 for JM Family Enterprises.

Rob was an active board member of the 2007-2009 term of the Gulfstream Customer Advisory Board, where he directly contributed to the confidential development of the Gulfstream G650, G500, and G600, as well as the format and function of the Gulfstream PlaneBook and other programs. He is a member in good standing of the National Business Aviation Association, the National Air Transportation Association, the Southern California Aviation Association, The Tailhook Association, and the Association of Naval Aviation. Additionally, Freespeed Aviation is one of only 60 worldwide certified and pledged Wyvern Brokers.

A graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Rob’s true collegiate fidelity lies with the University of Georgia, which he attended for 2 years prior to entering the US Navy’s Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS) and subsequent Naval Flight School at age 19. Rob and his wife Kasey and their daughter Siena make their home in Southern California and is certified by FlightSafety as a Master Aviator on the Gulfstream G550.  He is also proud to have achieved his Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) designation through the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), one of a small handful of business aviation managers to earn this certification.
